Some helpful information
*This is an exert from a learn astrology book I am working on. Please enjoy!! Feedback very welcome.
Astrology is an intricate and layered system of information, which uses a specifically designed Map called the Zodiac Wheel. The zodiac wheel as we know it was created by the Babylonians around the end of the 5th century BCE, and passed into Greek astrology afterwards. The Zodiac wheel is based around the interpretations of the meanings behind the Zodiac Constellations that take up their home on the path of the sun from our point on earth.
There are many layers to uncover in astrology, a never ending research rabbit hole, with some astrologers specialising in financial/business astrology or medical astrology. The more depth you understand the more layers you can find, and the more layers, the more accuracy.
Lets look at an example of how the layers work.
Layer 1: Sun in Virgo. Someone who is analytical, discerning and practical.
Layer 2: Sun in Virgo in the 7th house. Someone who is analytical, discerning and practical especially in relationships. A partner for someone with this placement would need to provide an equal amount of effort in the day to day work of the relationship. Sun in the 7th house also lets us know that relationships are an important part of this persons life.
Layer 3: Sun in Virgo in the 7th house at 15degrees. Knowing the degree we can also see that relationships would also be a learning experience and require mental stimulation and communication as a matter of importance.
Layer 4: Sun in Virgo in the 7th house at 15degrees Square Mars in Sagittarius in the 4th house at 15degrees. Adding this layer means we can also tell that this person works best with others (7th, 15 degrees) but would want to do things their own way (4th Mars Sagittarius). Conflict would likely occur often because the truth of Mars in Sagittarius would feel bigger then the Thoughtfulness of the Sun in Virgo. Partnerships may challenge this person to integrate assertiveness with sensitivity — learning to express passion without defensiveness or criticism.
